Can anyone tell me if New Balance running shoes run true to size. I need a shoe for wide feet with high arches? I live in a rural area and really need new running shoes like yesterday. So i was going order some over the internet. I usually wear Adidas or saucony for the wide toe box, but since i had kids and weight 15 lbs. heavier, my feet have spread and gone up a size. I have always had high arches and can't wear most basic brands of shoe for that reason. Just looking for recommendations. Thanks. Audrey C replied: "i naturally have pretty wide feet with normal arches and as i was growing up my mom always bought me new balance shoes because they run really wide.
now i run cross country and the asics shoes my mom bought me are the best shoes i have ever ran in, they are wide but not too wide. they are called gel cumulus 10 i went to a store called running wild and they helped me find them, they run about a 1/2 smaller than what you would normally get. i got a 7 and 1/2 when i normally wear a 7."
you got answers, I got questions replied: "I just got a pair of New Balance and had to go a full size larger. I make the time to take the trek (a two hour trek) to the shoe store 2x a year to get fitted and when I have the perfect shoe, I order the second pair off the web. It's luck of the draw when buying online." Can you please give me some information on cross trainer shoes, running shoes, and walking shoes? Thank you so much for your help and time! rhino72032 replied: "If you're going to run, go to a store that specializes in running shoes. They can watch the way your foot and ankle react as you run, and by seeing that, they can recommend the best shoe for you.
Most people pronate (their ankle rolls to the inside);
some people supinate (their ankle rolls to the outside).
Without seeing that reaction, it's impossible to for us to pick a shoe.
If you pronate quite a bit, then you need a motion control shoe.
But if your pronation is minimal a stability shoe or cushioned shoe would be better.
If you're going to walk or do aerobics, then a walking shoe or cross trainer will suffice. But running shoes are designed for running and to run without the correct shoe will lead to injury." Good running shoes? Run about 5 miles a day on treadmill and pavement? I now have nike shox which give me HORRIBLE shin splints. I know running shoes are on an individual basis but I was just looking for some info on what shoes most people like to run in under the same or similar conditions that I do. Any input is greatly appreciated!
thanks everyone for the answers, and "BTW" "RunningCoach" or whatever you are F*CK you if you think it's a horrible question why did your dumb as$ click on it. FU Staige replied: "I dont run myself but my sister got terrible shin splints from her nikes shoes that were a little to small, now she has asics 2130 in her size =]. they are great she says! hope i could have been of help! good luck!"
runner58 replied: "I started running with Nike Shox because I liked the look of them. But now that I have worn nicer shoes, I know that Nike Shox aren't for people like you who put in a good amount of mileage.
I mainly run on pavement and occasionally run on the treadmill. I wear Brooks Adrenaline 8's. Mainly, any nicer running shoe is going to be good for pavement and treadmills. Here are some top brand running shoes that come to mind: Brooks, Asics, Saucony, and New Balance. You can also find good Nikes.
Next time you go to the store, look for shoes labeled running. But, if you can, go to a specialty running store where they can fit you and tell you what shoe will work best. Gook luck."
Running Coach replied: "Don't ever by the Nike Shox for running. Why?
They are NOT made for running! No matter what the person in the store tells you, or how cool they look, they are not made for running. Yeah they look cool with the like shock things in the back, but they are not for running; at all.
Good shoes? Brooks GTS 8; Asics GT-2130; Mizuno Waveriders.
BTW, this is a horrible question. You are not going to change your running shoes based on where you run, so there is no point asking people. If you know that shoes are based on individul, then I really think you need to find the right shoe for you, not for your conditions."
phillies phan replied: "Asics and New Balance are really good running shoes. I've run cross country for four years and i've always gotten Asics. They're really comfortable. Our coach always told us to never get Nikes (and he works for nike lol)."
Millerun3 replied: "If i were you i would go to your local running store and try on many different kinds of shoes. Everyone has there own kind they like so you have to find the one that fits your needs the most. Personally I'm a fan of mizuno and have worn mizuno for along time and wouldn't switch. But once again it depends on what you like. I would avoid nike and adidas because they are not know for there running shoes. Try mizuno, asics, brooks those are all good brands. but if you like a nike or an adidas go with just make sure it's a running shoe. Because if it's not your more likely to injure yourself if you wear a basketball shoe our something like that and they are also heavier and make you run slower."
isaac m-g replied: "The type of running shoes you should get depends on your foots arch and pronation. There are three types of feet arches: high arch, neutral arch, and flat footed. The type of your arch depends on what type of shoe you should get. For more info goto" Sneakers, tennis shoes, gym shoes, running shoes, athletic shoes....what do you call them? There's so many names for this type of shoe; I was just wondering what other people call them. I grew up calling them gym shoes, but I don't think that one's too common. James K replied: "I call them running shows, or flats."

b_miller04 replied: "It depends on what your using the shoe for!
If your a runner then a running shoe
If your just going to the gym a crosstrainer
If they are just an everyday shoe I would call them just shoes"
p180t895 replied: "Gummybear,
There are actually many names for athletic shoes. The names come from their usage, geographic area, and specific moments in history. For example: When sneakers first started out in the 1800s in England their name was "plimsolls." In fact, many people in England still use the word "plimsolls" to describe slip-on and other types of light weight canvas sneakers.
Most people who call athletic shoes, gym shoes are from the Chicago (WI, IL, and IA) area, but this isn't always true. If you grew up outside this area (three states), where did you learn to call them gym shoes?
Today, I call them based upon their style and/or purpose, such as: boat shoes, deck shoes, slips, Chucks, sneakers, etc.
Anyway back to what I call them and what others call them:
I grew up in Southern to Southeastern Ohio and we called them sneakers. I'm not sure why maybe because we felt people who wore sneakers could be quiet. On the other hand, during basketball games, P.E. class, and many times when running in the halls you'd hear the sneakers and boy were they loud!
As for other places and times, I found this list with links to why the name exists on "Charlie's Sneaker Pages." His website is at:
I'd give you the direct link for each name, except Yahoo! Answers limits you to 5 (I think) links. As you can see, Charlie has links to many more than 5 names.

I need to order cheer shoes and I found a website that has them at a really good discount, just the only thing is that they are not returnable. I can wear anything from a 5 to a 6.5 depending on the shoe. This site only has them in a 5.5 which if they fit like regular tennis shoes I think it may work because I want them a little tight anyways so they are easier to tumble in. do Nike Air Achieve II Cheer shoes run true to size? mandaonice replied: "generally they are almost street size unlike other dance shoes. =)"
cribgirl210 replied: "most cheer shoes run true to size or a half size smaller...ive never had those shoes so its hard to tell..sorry lol" How do Vans classic slip-on shoes run in size? I was wondering how vans class slip-on shoes run in size for guys?
How do the sizes run compared to Nike's and Pumas?
I heard that slip-on shoes run about .5 larger than normal shoes. Mang replied: "i have had a few pairs of vans slip-on and they run about the same as nike. but when you first get them you want them to fit snug, because they stretch out a lot."
Jack B replied: "戎 鞽 亀" classify shoes? basketball shoes, running shoes, and skateboard shoes.? please give details about each and descriptions about each. i need to write paper classifying these shoes. N.L Florida replied: "Basketball shoes- made to give great ankle support so you don't injure yourself, sole is designed to give you quicker cuts in any directions on basketball courts. Skateboard shoes- meant to give you a more snug fit. Usually more low cut than basketball sneakers so your ankle has room to move more freely. The sole provides more traction than most shoes so you won't be slippin' off your board. Running shoes- meant to be lightweight so you don't add extra weight to your running. Provides more cushioning so your body feels less impact when running. Doesn't give that much ankle support so you run more freely." Do cheerleading shoes run small or large or are they comparable to street shoes? I'm looking at Nikes. I'm usually a size 8-8 1/2, and I'm ordering online. Do these typically run small or large, or regular to street shoes? rachel :) replied: "uhhmm i tried on cheer shoes beforee and i think theyre a little bit tighter around the foot than regular street shoes.
but um im a size 8 and i go to try mine on, so they might be smaller than your average shoe so pick the size that fits you the best"
Mary M replied: "im a size 6 in street shoes but i had to order an 8 in asics and nikes. but i seriously reccomend asics.they are lighter and you can move easier in them."
Cheer<3 replied: "They run a little small so go for 9 or 91/2 it be better if it was 91/2 in case your feet grow mid season"
ElItEeMeRaLdS2008-2009 replied: "they run really small, im a 5 and i have an 8 1/2 cheer shoe...we use converse" |
